How We Rank Online Casinos?

At US Casino Pros, we leave no stone unturned to provide the most in-depth assessment of every casino we look at. Our industry experts work around the clock testing and retesting hundreds of real money casinos, focusing on various key areas to guarantee the most accurate and detailed ratings. Here are a few of the most important aspects we consider when reviewing the best online casinos in the US.

  • Game Selection & Software
  • Payment Methods & Transaction Speeds
  • Bonuses & Reward Programs
  • UI/UX & Mobile Apps
  • Customer Support
  • Responsible Gambling Features

We look for the perfect balance of quality and quantity when rating a casino’s games lobby. A good selection of slots, table games, and live dealer offerings should also be available. We also look for casinos that have partnered with multiple leading software providers like NetEnt, IGT, and Evolution Gaming.

We highly rate US online casinos with a wide range of payment methods appealing to different players’ preferences. We’re talking major debit/credit cards like Visa and Mastercard, e-wallets like PayPal, online banking, mobile options like Apple Pay, and pre-paid cards. Our experts also consider a casino’s payment policies. Sites with the quickest payouts, no additional fees, unlimited withdrawals, and low minimal deposits are ranked the highest.

The best online casinos will offer a mixture of bonuses and promotions to keep new and existing customers happy and coming back for more fun. We look for a wide range of offers, including low or no deposit bonuses, deposit matches, free spins, seasonal promotions, VIP rewards schemes, and more when ranking the best of the best. Our experts also ensure to read the small print, so only sites with accessible terms and conditions make it onto our list of top-rated casinos.

Since more and more US players are turning to their mobile devices for casino entertainment, it is essential that US online casinos are adapted for mobile play. Players should have access to all of the site’s games and features through the casino’s HTML5-optimized mobile browser site. The best online casinos will also offer native apps on iOS and Android for the most bespoke mobile casino experience.

We rank casinos that offer 24/7 customer support through multiple channels highly. The best casinos feature live chat, email, and phone support alongside clear instructions on accessing each. Casinos that respond to queries quickly come out on top in our eyes. A detailed and intuitive FAQ page is also an added bonus.

Your safety and security are our top priorities when recommending casinos. That is why you can rest assured that only licensed online casinos that provide Responsible Gambling services and resources make it to our pages.

Sweepstakes casinos are an excellent alternative to real money casinos and are particularly popular in states where online casino gambling is currently prohibited. Sweeps Casinos, like Pulsz, McLuck, and WOW Vegas, are free-to-play sites that don’t require you to place real money deposits. As such, they are not classed as gambling platforms and are available in most states.

Sweepstakes casinos are much like regular casinos; they offer many of the same games but without the ‘real money’ part. Instead, you use free virtual currencies provided by the sweeps casino platforms to power gameplay. These virtual coins are often referred to as Gold Coins (GC) and Sweeps Coins (SC). Understanding how each of them works is crucial before entering sweepstakes play. We’ve clarified below.

  • Gold Coins: Gold Coins are for free play fun only. They don’t hold any monetary value, so you can’t redeem them for cash prizes. You are usually awarded a certain amount of Gold Coins for free upon registration. You can obtain more by claiming bonuses, entering tournaments, or purchasing Gold Coin bundles.
  • Sweepstakes Coins: Sweepstakes Coins cannot be purchased directly. Instead, you can pick them up for free through various on-site promotions, social media contests, and Gold Coin

The best online casinos in the US will offer hundreds of titles, including a good mix of online slot machines, virtual table games, live dealer experiences, and more. You’ll have plenty of options to choose from and enjoy. So, let’s take a look at some of the most popular game types among US casino players.

Online Slots

A popular casino game that involves spinning the reels and matching symbols across a winning pay line. Their simplistic gameplay and potentially generous payouts appeal to many. From exciting Megaways to old-school classics, there are thousands of real money online slots to choose from. You can also read our detailed slot reviews to discover the top online slots titles in the US right now.

A unique type of online slot that offers bigger jackpots. Progressive jackpot slots are connected across a shared network, and a small percentage of every wager is added to the prize pool. This pool gets bigger and bigger, often climbing into the millions until it’s won. The jackpot is then reset and starts building again

Blackjack

A staple casino card game played against a dealer. The main goal is to get a hand as close to 21 as possible without going over (or ‘bust’). American Blackjack, Blackjack Switch, and Live Blackjack are particularly popular blackjack variants you’ll find at most US online casinos.

Roulette

A timeless gambling game in which players bet on which red or black compartment they think a ball will land in on a spinning roulette wheel. The two most famous variations include European and American Roulette, and thanks to advances in technology, you can now enjoy the thrill of live dealer roulette at many live casinos in the US.

Poker

Poker, a well-known iconic card game involving multiple players. The aim is to have the strongest hand at the table, or at least convince other players that you do so they fold. Although poker involves some luck, it is primarily a game of skill and reading people. Texas Hold ’em and Seven-Card Stud are popular poker games available at most US casino sites.

Video Poker

Video poker follows the same strategy and gameplay as traditional five-card draw poker but with the ability to play solo. Unlike classic poker, you are up against a computer simulation similar in size to a slot machine. Deuces Wild is a common poker variant with great odds.

Live Casino Games

Live casino games allow players to enjoy the thrill of land-based casino gambling from the comfort of their homes. Live versions of popular table games, such as blackjack and roulette, are live-streamed in real-time via HD technology and feature a human host. Players can communicate with the dealer and other participants during play, offering an interactive and immersive experience many argue is missing from regular online casino games.

Popular Casino Payment Methods

An exciting part of online casino gambling is being able to play for real money and potentially grabbing the best payout possible. But before you register for a casino, you should check whether your preferred payment methods are available. Here is a list of the popular banking options you can expect to see at most US online casinos:

Logo of Visa

Visa

Visa is a major credit/debit card provider and by far the most popular payment option among US gamblers. It offers robust security, is widely available, and can be used for both deposits and withdrawals.

Mastercard

Mastercard is one of the largest issuers of credit and debit cards and is accepted at many online casinos in the US. It is incredibly safe, offering various ways to prevent online fraud. Deposits with Mastercard are usually fee-free and instant, while withdrawals can have fees of 2%.

PayPal

PayPal is an e-wallet that allows you to deposit and withdraw securely without sharing your credit card or bank account details with a casino. It’s available at most US casinos, serves both deposits and withdrawals, and has some of the quickest transaction speeds among all payment methods.

Play+ logo

Play+

PlayPlus is a prepaid card that you can top up using your bank account. It is a popular payment method among many US gamblers; you don’t need to input any financial information, and it ensures you won’t spend beyond what you’ve put on the card. Play+ deposits are usually instant, while withdrawals take 1-3 days.

PayNearMe

PayNearMe is a popular payment option that allows players to make in-person casino deposits at participating establishments, such as 7-Eleven stores. While being unable to withdraw is a downfall, it offers fast payouts time and greater control over your bankroll. PayNearMe is also safe to use; you don’t need to disclose any credit card details.

ACH Transfer (eCheck)

ACH transfer (eChecks) is a highly secure payment option most US online casinos accept. ACH is an electronic banking system that transfers money directly from your bank account to your chosen casino site. ACH transfer deposits are instant; however, withdrawals can take between 3 and 5 days.

Apple Pay

Available only for iPhone users, Apple Pay is a convenient payment option that is accepted at many real money casinos in the US. It acts as a go-between service between your bank and the casino, meaning you don’t need to share any bank details. Apple Pay payments are also ultra-efficient and incredibly secure but do not support withdrawals currently.

Bank Transfer

Bank transfers allow you to send and receive money directly from your bank account to a casino and vice versa. It supports deposits and withdrawals, and due to legal regulations, transactions can take around 3 to 5 days. Where are Online Casinos Legal in the US?

Currently, only six states have embraced these changes and legalized online casinos: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware and Connecticut.

New Jersey

New Jersey was one of the first states to embrace online casinos after then-governor Chris Christie signed SB1565 into law on February 26, 2013. This opened the doors for land-based casinos in the state to partner with online iGaming operators; On November 26 that year, 14 online casinos officially went live in the Garden State, all in partnership with the 12 Atlantic City casinos. New Jersey’s iGaming market is now fully operational with over 30 operators, all licensed and regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Pennsylvania

PA online casinos market is one of the biggest in the US, with over 19 operators currently active. Real money casinos were officially legalized in the Keystone State after Gov. Tom Wolf signed HB271 into law on October 30, 2017. The same bill also legalized sports betting and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) games.
Online operators started going live in July 2019, with Play Sugar House being the first to launch in the state. All legal online casinos in Pennsylvania are licensed and regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Michigan

Online gambling, including casino games, sports betting, and poker, was legalized in Michigan on October 30, 2019, after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed HB4311 into law. Michigan state law states that there can only be 15 regulated online casinos, and all forms of regulated gambling are overseen by The Michigan Gaming Control Board; Although 2020 was the year online casinos and sportsbooks were anticipated to launch in the Great Lakes State, that was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first online casinos and sportsbooks opened their virtual doors to MI players in January 2021. Currently, there are 15 Michigan online casinos to choose from, including industry giants BetMGM and FanDuel.

West Virginia

West Virginia legalized online casino and online poker in 2019 when it passed the Interactive Wagering Act, a year after online sports betting was permitted in the state. Lawmakers also designated the West Virginia Lottery Commission as the regulator of all forms of gambling, land-based and online.
The Interactive Wagering Act enables WV’s five land-basic casinos to partner with up to three iGaming operators each; fifteen licenses are available in total. DraftKings was the first online casino to open its doors to Mountain State players on July 15, 2020.

Delware

Delaware was the first state to legalize online casinos and online poker in 2012 after Gov. Ned Lamont signed the Delaware Gaming Competitiveness Act into law on June 28. All gambling in the state, including internet lottery tickets, online casino games, and online poker, is regulated by the Delaware Lottery.
The First State is home to three online casinos that operate in partnership with the three racinos in the state: Delaware Park, Dover Downs, and Harrington Raceway. Each racino has an app that allows players to access slots, table games, and poker on the go.

Connecticut

Real-money online casinos have been legal in Connecticut since 2021. The legalization occurred as part of a larger gambling expansion in the state. In May of 2021, Gov. Lamont signed HB6451 into law, enabling CT players to partake in retail and online sports betting, Daily Fantasy (DFS), online lottery, Keno, and online slots and casino games; Due to the unique political situation in the state, only online casinos in conjunction with the state’s two Native American tribes can set up shop. Players in the Constitutional State have two options if they want to play casino games online: DraftKings, through a partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, or FanDuel, through an agreement with the Mohegan tribe.

The Future of US Gambling

There are only a handful of states with regulated real-money online casinos. For now, the path to widespread legalization remains complex. However, local laws are constantly changing, and more and more states are considering legalizing online casino gambling.
In fact, Rhode Island recently passed legislation permitting online casinos but has yet to launch its iGaming market. Other states predicted to pass online gambling laws in 2024 include Maryland and New York. But only time will tell.
